Cave of Saint Marias Aigyptias

This distinctive place of worship is a natural cave that is incorporated into the wider complex of the Holy Monastery of Saint George Mavrovouniou. The cave has been suitably arranged in its interior to honour the memory of Saint Mary, offering an authentic sense of the ancient ascetic tradition of the desert. The atmosphere that prevails is deeply contemplative and isolated from the rest of the world. The pilgrims who reach the hill of the monastery can descend to this space for individual prayer.
