Cave of Saints 318 Pateron

This historic rock-hewn hermitage is located at a very short distance from the church of Saint Theodosios in the community of Pano Archimandrita in Paphos. It is a small cave dug into the rock, which functioned as the ossuary of an old medieval monastery and houses the bones and skulls of the 318 Holy Fathers who took refuge on the island. The space has been declared an official archaeological monument by the Department of Antiquities and preserves inside it samples of old wall paintings. Owing to its nature as a cave, it is not suitable for sacraments, but is a great place of pilgrimage.
