Cave of Saints Forty

This exceptionally otherworldly and unique chapel is hidden within a large, wild natural cave on the hill of Fanos, having been internationally characterised as one of the strangest churches in the world. Human intervention in the interior is minimal, with the space being suggestively lit by a natural skylight in the ceiling, which is externally covered by a small stone dome. The name of the church was connected with the Forty Martyrs owing to the dozens of stalactites that hang from the rock, offering visitors an atmosphere of primeval grandeur and contemplation.
