Chapel of Apostle Thomas

The chapel of Saint Thomas was sunk into the ground, as around it the area was subject to embankments. Following the wish of the residents to repair it, the chapel now holds a prominent position in the Community. It is a chapel built in the 16th century during the period of Venetian rule (1489-1570), near the Tremithos River. Architecturally the church is single-space and vaulted, which also attests to its date. According to testimonies, in the 20th century this church suffered serious damage, as on the northern door is inscribed the following phrase "RENEWED IN MAY OF THE YEAR 1922." In 2019 the chapel of Saint Thomas was declared an ancient monument by the Department of Antiquities and in 2020 its conservation works were completed.
