Chapel of Archangel Michael

This historic and isolated chapel is built next to a beautiful olive grove in the community of Vyzakia. In the past it was the only church of the village, while it also functioned as a dependency (metochi) of the renowned Monastery of Panagia of Araka, hosting monks. It is a small, wooden-roofed structure with a semicircular apse, in the interior of which survive precious authentic wall paintings that evoke religious devotion. Owing to its great archaeological value and the limited space, the monument has been restored by the Department of Antiquities and now functions mainly as a pilgrimage sight rather than for the celebration of social sacraments.
