Chapel of Panagia Chortakia

This important Byzantine monument rises to the southwest of the village in the historic location Chortakia and was originally the katholikon of an ancient monastic complex. Architecturally it belongs to the type of the single-aisled church with a dome and is sturdily built of local, hewn limestone blocks of great thickness. Tradition inextricably connects this particular Panagia with protection from drought, as the residents customarily through the ages hold litanies of its icon to bring rain to the area. Today, this devout space attracts many visitors who seek the tranquility of the countryside, standing next to the ruined cells of the old monastery.
