Chapel of Panagia

The small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary is located near the main church of the community. It is worth visiting to venerate and to take holy water (agiasma) with you. Tradition says that the Queen was haemorrhaging and sat down to rest on a rock, where she found that the bleeding stopped, and asked her escorts to lead her to some nearby spring to be cleansed. They escorted her to a spring in the village of Avdellero, where she was able to be washed with clean water from the spring. Years later a shepherd found the recess of the rock with the spring as well as the icon of the Virgin Mary, which the next day disappeared and he found again at the location of the spring. There they understood that the water was blessed.
