Chapel of Saint Sozomenos - Gerakion

This modern, mountainous chapel is nestled in the verdant area of Marathasa, outside the residential core of the village of Gerakies. Its erection was completed recently, with the official inauguration being celebrated in the summer of 2022 by the Holy Metropolis of Morphou. The structure follows simple, traditional architectural lines and is inextricably connected with the local reverence toward Saint Sozomenos, as in the same area there is also the well-known "Agiopetra." Owing to its remote location within the mountains and its limited size, the church functions mainly as a pilgrimage site and is not available for social sacraments.
