Church Kythreas

The term concerns the totality of the historic Christian churches and chapels that are located scattered in the six parishes of the occupied town of Kythrea in the Nicosia district. Among these stand out the churches of Saint Marina, Saint Anna, Saint Andronikos, and the emblematic Panagia the Chardakiotissa which was the largest church of the area. After the events of the Turkish invasion of 1974, most of these churches were savagely plundered, destroyed, or converted into mosques and cultural centers, remaining inaccessible to the displaced residents.
