Church of Holy Cross

This important ecclesiastical monument dominates the central square of occupied Trikomo and is directly connected with the rich Byzantine tradition of the Famagusta district. Architecturally it is a composite church that incorporates medieval elements, a cruciform structure with a dome, and arches of rare beauty that divide its interior space. Before the events of 1974, the church hosted priceless wall paintings and icons, being the spiritual core of the hundreds of the faithful of the community. Today, because of the Turkish occupation, access is forbidden, with the structure remaining a silent witness to the cultural and religious heritage that patiently awaits the return of its lawful residents.
