Church of Panagia Odigitrias

This very distinctive medieval structure is located about half a kilometer east of the community of Arediou in the Nicosia district, surrounded by centuries-old olive trees. It is a small, single-aisled church with a dome, whose western part was added later and is covered by an intensely pointed arch. According to local tradition, the church was erected upon the ancient remnants of a pagan sanctuary, while in its interior survive precious samples of wall paintings of the Byzantine period. Owing to the limited space and its great archaeological value, the little church functions mainly as a historic sight rather than as a space of social sacraments.
