Church of Saint Demetrios

This magnificent church is the central parish worship space of the refugee Settlement of Agios Georgios Acheritou – Vrysoulles. It was erected at the end of the 1980s to replace the makeshift prefabricated structure that served the displaced immediately after the Turkish invasion. The structure follows the architectural model of the three-aisled vaulted basilica and is decorated internally with excellent wall paintings, while it also temporarily hosts the great religious festivals of the occupied parish of the Ascension.
