Church of Saint Paideias

This historic little church, more widely known in the local dialect as Agiapaidkia, is hidden at a low altitude to the northwest of the occupied village of Sygkrasi. It is a single-aisled, vaulted structure of the Byzantine period, which in the past functioned as a necessary station of rest and prayer for the pilgrims who were heading toward the Monastery of the Apostle Andrew. The most notable feature of the monument is the underground tunnel-cave that extends right below the foundations of the church, where the famous miraculous holy spring (agiasma) of the Three Children gushes. Unfortunately, because of the Turkish occupation since 1974, the space has been abandoned and access for the Christian flock is extremely difficult.
