Holy Chapel of Panagia Amiantou

This small, stone-built chapel is located in a verdant mountainous area next to the bridge of the Kouris River, on the geographical boundaries between the villages of Amiantos and Pelendri. It is built at a spot where miraculous holy spring (agiasma) gushes and is connected with an old religious tradition of centuries. The little chapel celebrates its feast with particular splendor on Thomas Sunday, the day on which the faithful carry by hand the venerable icon of the Panagia in a great walking procession from Pelendri. Because of its very small interior space, the chapel is not suitable for the celebration of weddings or baptisms.
