Holy Church of Holy Cross of Agiasmati

This famous church was the katholikon of an old monastery and is included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Monuments thanks to the exceptionally well-preserved wall paintings by Philippos Goul. The structure follows the type of the single-aisled timber-roofed church of Troodos and is surrounded by a unique closed portico on all four of its sides. Despite the fact that its name is etymologically connected with the word 'agiasma' (holy spring), today mainly ruins of the original monastic cells survive at the site and the historic church is strictly protected as an archaeological site.
