Holy Church of Panagia Evangelistria

This historic church is the main church of the occupied community of Gerolakkos in the Nicosia district. It is a large and imposing stone-built edifice, which was traditionally the religious and social focal point of the inhabitants of the wider area. After the events of 1974, the church came under Turkish occupation and has since suffered significant wear and changes of use. Owing to the special conditions of the occupation, the site remains inactive for the lawful faithful, making impossible the free celebration of joyful social sacraments.
