Holy Church of Panagia of Asinou

This world-famous monument is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list and is located on the wooded slopes of Troodos. The church was the katholikon of an old monastery and is protected under a later wooden roofed structure with tiles. Inside it, some of the most important and representative Byzantine wall paintings of the whole Mediterranean are preserved. Owing to its enormous historical and archaeological value, the site functions mainly as a museum open to visitors and attracts crowds of tourists daily.
