Holy Church of Panagia of Podithou

This historic church is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Monument and originally functioned as the katholikon of a small monastery of the same name. It is a single-aisled timber-roofed structure with a steep gabled roof, built with unworked stones in the lush green valley of the Klarios river. Its interior has an elaborate gilded iconostasis and is entirely decorated with rare wall paintings of Italo-Byzantine style that combine the Orthodox tradition with elements of the Renaissance.
