Holy Church of Saint Ambrose Keryneias

This imposing and magnificent parish church dominates the occupied village of Agios Ambrosios in the Kyrenia district, built upon a beautiful plateau between Pentadaktylos and the sea. It was erected in the early 20th century upon the foundations of older settlements and was the religious focal point of the entire surrounding area. After the Turkish invasion of 1974 and the violent displacement of its Christian residents, the historic structure was converted into a Muslim mosque, with the result that it remains inaccessible for the celebration of Orthodox services.
