Holy Church of Saint Charalambos (Ruins)

This impressive church is the patron and central religious space of worship of occupied Neo Chorio Kythrea in the Nicosia district. It is a large, single-aisled basilica that stood out historically for its towering, elaborately carved stone bell tower, which was a true architectural ornament for the area. After the events of the Turkish invasion of 1974 the church was plundered, while the displaced residents have erected an eponymous refugee church in Aglantzia to keep alive the tradition of their village.
