Holy Church of Saint George

This historic church dominates the center of the occupied village of Flamoudi in Karpasia and is the most emblematic religious structure of the area. It is an imposing stone-built church, which was radically renovated at the end of the 19th century upon pre-existing foundations and was officially inaugurated a little before the outbreak of the First World War. After the Turkish invasion of 1974, the church was violently cut off from its displaced flock and suffered serious damage, including the demolition of the upper part of its bell tower. Recently, the monument was saved from decay thanks to complete works of conservation and stabilization that were carried out by the bicommunal Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage.
