Holy Church of Saint Theodore Stratilatou

The main church of Saint Theodore the Commander stands on the eastern bank of the Atsas river and replaced an older church from the Turkish occupation period. According to tradition, the icon of the Saint miraculously kept returning to the spot where it was found, leading the inhabitants to build the first church there. The present church was completed in 1916 and is a single-aisled basilica with a gabled tiled roof, pointed arches and two entrances. It is built of stone and traditional bricks, while the floor is covered with mosaic. Around it stood the old cemetery, and olive groves that once provided income for the church still survive. The Saint's memory is honoured on 8 February, attracting crowds of faithful from all over Solea.
