Holy Monastery Antifoniti

This important monastic katholikon is dedicated to the Archangel Michael and is hidden on a wooded mountain slope of Pentadaktylos, near Kalograia. It is the only surviving example of an octagonal Byzantine church in Cyprus, with an impressive dome of large diameter and later Frankish additions. After 1974, the monastery suffered savage plundering with the violent removal of its priceless medieval wall paintings, while today it functions as a controlled monument where the celebration of free sacraments is forbidden.
