Holy Monastery of Panagia of Araka

This renowned church is the katholikon of an old monastery and is located in the mountainous area of Pitsilia, between the villages of Lagoudera and Saranti. Owing to its enormous historical value and its excellent Byzantine wall paintings, the monument is officially included in the list of the World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. Its architectural structure is protected by a large wooden gabled roof with hooked tiles, which was constructed to protect the main church and the dome from the adverse weather conditions of Troodos.
