Holy Monastery of Panagia of Kykkou

This famous royal and stavropegic monastery is the richest and most recognizable religious center of the island. It was founded during Byzantine times with imperial sponsorship and is dedicated to Panagia the Eleousa. Although the building complex was destroyed and rebuilt repeatedly owing to fires, it preserves to this day the priceless miraculous icon that is attributed to the Evangelist Luke.
