Krypti Tafis of Saint Barnabas

This is the underground crypt where the relic of the Apostle Barnabas, founder of the Church of Cyprus, was discovered, which is located near Engomi in Famagusta. Above the burial spot a small, austere chapel has been erected during the 20th century that leads via a staircase to the ancient rock-hewn tomb. Owing to the Turkish occupation since 1974, the site functions mainly as a religious monument and museum open to visitors, making the free conduct of sacraments impossible.
