Monastery of Holy Forerunner (St John the Baptist) (Ereipia tou monastiriou)

This historic monument is the ruined remains of the old Holy Monastery of the Honourable Forerunner, which is located in the community of Koili in the Paphos district. The monastery suffered irreparable damage and was completely deserted after the catastrophic earthquake that struck the whole district in 1953. Today only rubble of the church's stonework survives, which attests to the medieval monastic presence and the religious activity of the area. Owing to its total collapse, the site lacks a functional roof or capacity, being exclusively a quiet archaeological station for walkers and visitors.
