Monastery of Saint Mamas

This emblematic monastic complex of the occupied town is one of the most important places of pilgrimage on the island. The central church combines elements of Gothic and domed building, while inside it dominates the marble sarcophagus of the Saint, from which consecrated oil flows. After nineteen seventy-four, the facilities were converted into a museum space of icons; however, in recent years the celebration of a festive divine liturgy is rarely permitted for the displaced faithful.
