Old Church of Saint Nicholas (Ruins)

This emblematic half-collapsed church is the only visible remnant from the old village of Alassa, which was evacuated and permanently flooded owing to the construction of the artificial Kouris dam. The stone edifice presents the unique phenomenon of being covered by the waters of the reservoir during the rainy months, often leaving only its bell tower protruding, while it is revealed again when the level recedes. Today, its ruined facilities function exclusively as a distinctive and exceptionally popular tourist sight for photography, making the celebration of any sacrament or service impossible.
