Old Church of Saint Raphael and Basil

In the heart of the square of Kalo Chorio in Larnaca dominates the old, stone-built little church that is dedicated to Saint Basil and Saint Raphael. The erection of the original single-aisled, vaulted church is placed in the period of the 15th to 16th century, while during the 18th century the structure was extended to the west with the addition of a women's gallery. In the early 21st century radical conservation works were carried out, during which the later addition of the women's gallery was removed to restore the original form of the church, while at the same time its old icons were saved and conserved. A remarkable element of its historicity is its iconostasis, which was transferred intact from the old church of the Saviour in Larnaca. The country chapel is a spiritual beacon for the community and celebrates with every formality on 1 January.
