Panagia Faneromeni

This is one of the most emblematic religious landmarks of Larnaca, which consists of a historic church of the early 20th century and a modern, larger edifice next to it. The particular feature of the site is the underground, ancient Mycenaean rock-hewn tomb, which during the first Christian centuries was converted into a catacomb and a secret refuge of worship for the persecuted faithful. Today, the complex attracts crowds of pilgrims who visit both the parish church and the underground chapel, observing traditional customs of invocation for healing.
