Panagia Karmiotissa

This historic and contemplative country chapel is located in Pano Polemidia, Limassol, and is the only surviving remnant of an old medieval monastic complex. The church was originally built by Roman Catholic monks of the order of the Carmelites, who took refuge on the island after their expulsion from Palestine. It is a stone, single-aisled structure with a characteristic pointed arch, which today functions as an Orthodox place of worship. On the northern side of the monument there is a cave where the traditional, miraculous holy spring (agiasma) of the Virgin Mary gushes forth.
