Saint Filon Stin Agritia (Ruins)

This important religious and archaeological monument rises on the northern coast of Karpasia, built upon the ruins of an early Christian basilica of the fifth century. The existing church belongs to the type of the cross-in-square with a dome and is constructed of visible, roughly cut limestone blocks that give it a unique historic appearance. As the structure is half-ruined and lacks a roof, it now functions exclusively as a protected archaeological site next to the ancient Roman harbor. Because of the Turkish occupation, the monument remains violently cut off, being a silent witness to the first Christian years of the island.
