Saint George Arperas

The church of Saint George of Arpera was built in 1745 by the dragoman of Cyprus, Christofakis Konstantinou. The church is constructed of hard and porous stone and, as a church, is single-aisled and vaulted. During your visit you can discern the icon of Saint Tryphon and Saint Symeon the Stylite beneath the votive wall painting, as well as the icons of Saints Peter and George on the north wall. Directly opposite are the wall paintings of Saint Paul and the Archangel Michael, which were painted in 1747. In this particular church, a divine service is celebrated each year on Saint George's day on Bright Monday, on the day after Christmas, and on the Holy Spirit's day. Also, every year a vigil is held on the feast of the Holy Protection.
