Saint George

This remarkable church is the central parish church of the village of Gerakies, nestled amphitheatrically in the verdant mountainous area of Marathasa. It is a stone-built structure in the style of a single-aisled wooden-roofed basilica, which incorporates the traditional architecture of the mountain resorts of Cyprus. In the interior of the Church of Saint George survives a very beautiful wood-carved iconostasis and icons of great historical and religious value. Owing to its hospitable character and its idyllic location within the mountains, the church is used normally for the celebration of weddings and baptisms of the residents and the expatriates.
