Saint George

At the eastern entrance of the community of Vasa Koilaniou is located the historic chapel of Saint George, which according to tradition formerly was the monastery of the Small Lavra. It is a single-aisled, cruciform domed church, which received a western extension during the early twentieth century. In its interior survive precious wall paintings of the fifteenth century, among which stands out the rare depiction of the Saint's mother, Saint Polychronia.
