Saint Irene

The Holy Church of Saint Irene is the central church of the eponymous mountainous community in the Nicosia district. According to the history of the village, the original monastery and the first church had been built during the 16th century, but were completely destroyed by a great fire. The present church was built in the place of the old one in 1910, while the only historical element that survived the flames is a stone arch that still stands today in the forecourt.
