Saint Marina

This small, stone-built medieval chapel rises a few kilometers northeast outside the village of Frenaros, being a remarkable example of the Byzantine countryside. It is a single-aisled, vaulted structure with a pointed roof, which is sturdily built with traditional squared limestone blocks of the area. In the poor and simple interior of the church survive a few remnants of ancient wall paintings, among which the Crucifixion and the figure of a large Archangel can be distinguished. Every year in mid-July, the quiet surrounding space is transformed into a pole of attraction for hundreds of the faithful who flock to the traditional festival to honor the memory of the Great Martyr.
