Saint Onouphrios Machairas

The historic chapel of Saint Onouphrios belongs as a dependency (metochi) to the Holy Monastery of Machairas and is built to the west of Kapedes, within the verdant forest environment of the mountain range. Although the existing stone-built domed church is a newer reconstruction owing to historical destruction, its roots date back to the period of the Frankish rule. The space originally functioned as a small monastic community and today is an extremely popular and devout destination for the hikers who follow the eponymous nature trail.
