Saint Paraskevi

This is a picturesque, small chapel built in the eponymous rural area of the community of Akaki, in Nicosia. On the site of the church there was formerly an important well-holy spring (agiasma), from which the farmers and hunters of the wider area quenched their thirst and washed. The effort of erection began from the personal piety of a faithful person who daily lit a lamp there, and was completed later with the contribution and the offerings of the rest of the fellow villagers. Owing to its isolated location in the countryside and its limited dimensions, the space is not used for sacraments, but functions as a quiet spiritual refuge.
