SAINT PARASKEVI

This is a picturesque, small chapel built in the eponymous rural area of the community of Akaki, in Nicosia. At the site of the church there was formerly an important well-holy water spring, from which the farmers and hunters of the wider area quenched their thirst and washed. The effort of erection began from the personal piety of a believer who lit an oil lamp there daily, and was completed later with the assistance and the contributions of the rest of the fellow villagers. Owing to its isolated location in the countryside and its limited dimensions, the space is not used for sacraments, but functions as a quiet spiritual refuge
