SAINT ANDRONIKOS

This extremely important medieval church is located in Polis Chrysochous in Paphos and is dedicated to Saints Andronikos and Athanasia. During the period of Ottoman rule it was converted into a Muslim mosque, a fact that led to the covering of its important Byzantine wall paintings of the 16th century with plaster, protecting them however from the ravages of time. Today, this restored stone monument functions as a protected cultural and historical site, revealing the rich religious heritage of the area.
