SAINT GEORGE ARPERAS

The church of Saint George of Arpera was built in 1745 by the dragoman of Cyprus Christofakis Konstantinou. The church is built of hard and porous stone and as a church it is single-aisled and vaulted. During your visit you can make out the icon of Saint Tryphon and of Saint Symeon the Stylite below the votive wall painting, as well as the icons of Saints Peter and George on the north wall. Directly opposite are the wall paintings of Saint Paul and of the Archangel Michael which were painted in 1747. In this particular church every year on Saint George's day on Easter Monday, on the day after Christmas and on Holy Spirit day a divine liturgy is celebrated. Also every year on the feast of the Holy Protection a Vigil is held.
