SAINT GEORGE (CEMETERY AGLANTZIA)

This is a historic, single-aisled and vaulted church located in the area of the old cemetery in Aglantzia in Nicosia. Its erection was completed at the end of the 18th century thanks to a donation of the dragoman Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios, replacing an earlier building of the Frankish period. In its interior a precious wood-carved iconostasis with beautiful floral decoration survives. Owing to its position within the cemetery, the church serves mainly the needs of the community and funeral services rather than joyful social sacraments
