SAINT GEORGE

At the eastern entrance of the community of Vasa Koilaniou is the historic chapel of Saint George, which according to tradition was formerly the monastery of the Small Lavra. It is a single-aisled, cruciform church with a dome, which received a western extension during the beginning of the twentieth century. In its interior precious icon paintings of the fifteenth century survive, among which the rare depiction of the mother of the Saint, Saint Polychronia, stands out
