SAINT GEORGE

This noteworthy church is the central parish church of the village of Gerakies, nestled amphitheatrically in the verdant mountainous area of Marathasa. It is a stone-built structure in the style of a single-aisled timber-roofed basilica, which incorporates the traditional architecture of the mountain resorts of Cyprus. In the interior of the Church of Saint George a very beautiful wood-carved iconostasis is preserved and icons of great historical and religious value. Owing to its welcoming character and its idyllic location within the mountains, the church is regularly used for the celebration of weddings and baptisms of the residents and of those living abroad
