SAINT GEORGE
This historic chapel, also known as Saint George the Pyrgotis, rises at the south-eastern end of the community of Kouklia in Paphos. According to local oral tradition, the church was erected in the 16th century under the guidance of Catherine Cornaro, the last queen of Cyprus. It is a single-aisled basilica built of stone, in the interior of which precious religious relics and traces of old medieval wall paintings survive. Owing to the limited space and its great archaeological value, it functions mainly as a protected monument and place of pilgrimage.
