SAINT EUSTATHIOS

This small and extremely devotional medieval chapel is located in the rural area of Sotira, Famagusta and is a precious example of the local Byzantine heritage. It is a single-chamber, vaulted structure, which is sturdily built of local limestone blocks that bear upon them the marks of the centuries. The interior of the church is characterised by a plain and unadorned space of worship, where only a few traces of old wall paintings testify to its original decoration. Its isolated location within nature offers the few passers-by and pilgrims a unique sense of serenity and seclusion away from the modern pace of the city.
