SAINT MAMAS

The medieval church of Saint Mamas rises to the north of Idalion, beside the old cemetery of the community and very close to the 1st Primary School. It is a building of Gothic style with striking structural simplicity, in the interior of which incorporated marble columns from the ancient city of Idalion predominate. This church was an inspiration for the great poet George Seferis, who was moved by the distinctive latch of its door and wrote the poem “Details in Cyprus”
