SAINT GREAT MARTYR GEORGE

This magnificent church stands dominant in the centre of the community and is the main church of the residents of the area. The building bears a traditional pitched and pointed tiled roof, while local tradition connects it inextricably with the deliverance of the island from the deadly epidemic of the plague. Indeed, on a nearby stone slab an imprint survives which the faithful consider to come from the hoof of Saint George's horse during his pursuit of evil. Owing to its comfortable interior space and its central location, the church is used normally for the celebration of all the ecclesiastical sacraments of the parish
